Only a subset of modern US fascists are strongly motivated by violence on a grandiose scale (Life Is Permanent Warfare and Heroic Death). I suggest dishing out humiliation is where the emotional satisfaction really is.
As noted in Frustrated Middle Class, one motivation for the fascist turn is a feeling that either oneself or one's class is being humiliated.
"Turnabout is fair play," and our modern fascists are obsessed with humiliating the enemy, "owning the libs," "rolling coal 
," and so on.
It's not enough to exercise power over another. The other must know it's happened and know there's nothing they can do about it.
